Where in the world?

Indian Temple in Houston

It’s not India, Bangladesh, or Kuala Lumpur. This, my friends, is Houston.

Who would have thought that just a hop, skip and a jump away from Fry’s Electronics, Starbucks, and Archer VW, among malls and country clubs, tucked between freeways and toll roads, we’d find this gorgeous gem?

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a haven for Hindu spirituality that was inaugurated in 2004. A true labor of love, it was erected in less than a year and a half thanks to volunteers who put in 1.3 million hours of work, assembling more than 33,000 individual hand-carved pieces that were shipped from India.

It is comprised of 2 types of stone, Turkish Limestone for the exterior and Italian marble for the unphotographable interior.

I’ll leave you with some images and Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s mantra:

To perform good deeds without expectations reflects purity of action.
